SCHOLARSHIP AWARD SPECIFICATIONS 2008-2009
College scholarship auditions were on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Wharton High Theatre. District 9 provides an annual financial award.
This years scholarship recipients are:
Jessie Grossman, Hillsborough High School, Troupe 1339
and
Emily Morehouse, Wharton High School, Troupe 5692

The financial award will be disbursed after the current State Festival and sent to the Institution of the recipient’s designation. Recipient’s who do not specify their Institution of choice by June 15 of the current year will forfeit the award, and those funds will either remain with the District or redistributed at the decision of a de facto board assembled by the Chair.
District 9 Thespian sponsors present at the auditions will serve as judges for the award designation. When choosing a recipient, judges will consider three areas when awarding a scholarship: need, talent, & goal. Sponsor of individual APPLICANT(s) must be present at audition. A troupe may submit no more than four APPLICANTS in any combination of categories, or no more than two APPLICANTS in each of three categories for a maximum of six.
Scholarship Award may be designated for one or more APPLICANTS (divided as the attending Sponsors deem appropriate). APPLICANTS have a limited time to present work of either an Acting (1.0 minutes), Musical (Acting 1.0 minutes & Singing .5 minutes), or Technical (2.0 minutes) nature, as per the State guidelines. Musical Theatre applicants must provide sheet music and perform with the District-provided piano accompaniment.
APPLICANTS will be active and inducted members of the International Thespian Society, and must have national affiliation…this membership will be verified by the District Chair through the National offices in Ohio. APPLICANTS must also be members of an active District Nine Thespian Troupe from the state of Florida: The Sponsors’ signature on the application attests to local membership.
APPLICANTS must have received a SUPERIOR rating at the current year’s Individual Events Festival. The Sponsors’ signature on application attests to this rating…the District Chair will confirm this rating through official records from the Festival.
APPLICANTS, at the time of registration, will have a minimum combined overall 3.0 G.P.A., along with a 1800 combined S.A.T., or a 26 on the A.C.T., and will be currently ranked as a Senior in their respective High School. Applicants must at least show proof of taking one of these tests through documented score at time of scholarship application. This information must noted and confirmed by a Guidance Official from the Applicant’s school.
APPLICANTS will be limited to those pursuing further education in a credited college, university, or conservatory in the following areas of the performing arts: theatre, film, television, radio, dance, musical theatre, technical design, playwriting, stage/theatre management, direction, & theatre arts education.
SPONSORS and/or APPLICANTS must complete and present the Intent To Audition Form to fax in advance of the auditions, and the Scholarship Application Form due at the time of audition.
APPLICANTS and SPONSORS who do not fulfill (or ensure the fulfillment of) any part of the guidelines and timelines to register or audition (including any missing or incorrect signatures, data, or general required paperwork) may be disqualified from any involvement at any step in the audition process.
